INSIDE AC RADIO
by: Larry Weir
Los Angeles, CA - Get ready for the Mad Dukes. They are "off and running" and are set to take over the music planet with a strong offering entitled "Looking For That Girl" (RippyFish). The band makes a big impression on our "most added" column this week and it appears that they are well on their way. Please remember that you heard about the Mad Dukes first on the pages of New Music Weekly. Cerrito is back with a red-hot single. "South Of The Border" (Checo) is the one that also hits the "most added" column hard. Jimmy White is also making waves with a brand new single. "One Track Heart" (WPM) also hits the top of the "most added". This marks the follow-up to his very successful "Change My Life" that hit the top a few weeks ago at the AC40 and on the independent chart.
Natasha Ponticelli is making quite a name for herself as of late. "Take Me To This Place" is the debut single and it appears that she is on her way to having a hit at the format. Big Rain continues strong again this week. "Sweet Inspiration" (Oak) appears to be a real winner and the spins continue to tell the tale. Jessica Simpson is also back at radio with a brand new single in "A Very Public Affair" (Epic/Sony). Another female artist that is burning up the charts at radio is Kyrah. "Boomerang" (Singha) is about as hot as they get and our Hot AC40 stations as well as the Top40 format are spinning this one in some rather impressive numbers.
Mary J Blige has teamed up with one of America’s biggest bands U2 for new single. "One" (Geffen/UMG) seems to have new life or at least that’s what they are hoping out there. It is an interesting pairing at best that should help make the summer a bit more interesting. "Boston" (Epic/Sony) by Augustana is getting a lot of attention out there at the format. Look for more "most added" action in the weeks to come for this one.
The Fray is on the move at the format again this week. "How To Save My Life" is the track that appears to signal some good things for this hot act. Michael Cialdella continues strong again this week. "Just Another Day" has been a fast mover on the AC40. As of this writing we are set to see Michael perform over at Backstage in Beverly Hills and we will give you the full scoop on how that went down in our very next issue. Leanne Kingwell also continues to impress our panel with her latest single. "Show Ya What" (Krill) is the one that is getting the nod and there are some rather strong numbers to back this one up again this week.
Janet Jackson and Nelly are together this week with "Call On Me" (Virgin). Janet just turned 40 and that means she’ll be working extra hard to make this single happen. Kama Linden is also working overtime on "Waiting" (Coast). Newcomer Lisa Palleschi is also moving fast this week with "Learning How To Love Again". Blak Mist as also having another strong week with "Ride" (MMC). This outfit seems to be "on their way" and we’re thrilled. "Unfaithful" (Def Jam) by Rihanna is a "one to watch" as they move her into the Hot AC arena. Beyonce is also fighting for attention at the format with her "Déjà Vu" single. Epitome continues strong with a track entitled "Pressure" (EPE). Taylor Hicks is also winning the hearts and minds of AC listeners and programmers. "Do I Make You Proud" (J) is the track that is working the magic and most of us remember the debut on American Idol.
Michael Chain has been building some rather impressive numbers for this "Do You Want To Do It" (Hard Ten) single. This is one of the hardest working guys in the business and his Hard Ten record group is following close behind to make sure it all happens in a first rate fashion. The Sean O’Reilly band continues to kick butt with "After The Storm" (Glenn). Wendy Conrad has been a real winner with her "I Can Leave" (Taurmini) track. Salas featuring Jerry Salas has been on a major role with "You Will Always Be Loved" (Jerome).
