It was reported that the original Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disneyland under went a 3 month renovation and opened a couple weeks before the premiere of the movie. The additions included an animatronic version of Capt. Jack Sparrow. Now it has been a long time since Ive actually enjoyed a movie. Just sit back, forget about everything and just get lost in a movie. Thank you to Pirates because they delivered that with this sequel. The cast is reunited and the storyline is easy to follow. I actually found myself jaw-dropped at the action sequences and above-average special effects. For the movie there were a few parts that are slow and drag a bit. However I feel that everything is explained at the end of the movie. If you want to go to a movie, find yourself getting lost (in a good way) in the movie and just having a great time, go see this movie. I went and saw it with a friend who didnt see the first one; he kept up with the movie and also really liked it. I wish more movies would come out as enjoyable as this and they make more Pirates movies. Because in all honesty they got everything right. I was also right in predicting last year that this movie was going to be the top summer movie of this year (stated in the show). If you didnt stay till the end of the first Pirate movie, shame on you!
---Spoiler warning---
First off, working in the film industry I usually catch wind of certain things. I knew that
they were shooting the 3rd movie during the 2nd so I was wondering if they were going
to make a cliffhanger ending or not. Sadly they did make a cliffhanger, which is good but bad because now well have to wait for the next movie. As stated above the slow moments are due because it is classic storytelling. While I was watching the movie I noticed that they were still working the storyline when there wasnt that much action. This is common with only during the very beginning of a movie. However if 2 and 3 are watched as one whole movie, this explains why there was so much story development, thus the reason why I gave this a 4 and not a 5.
Bad stuff first. It was a disappointment seeing the character of Elizabeth Swan having feelings for Capt. Jack Sparrow. That was something that I really admired about her in the first one, she only had eyes for Will Turner. Thats how it should be, not every dramatic movie needs a love triangle, and Im really getting sick of this plot device. Now what is supposed to happen with the third movie? At the end, everyone drinks a toast to Capt. Jack Sparrow that the voodoo lady gave them to offer comfort and make them feel better. Elizabeth however did not drink which causes her character to look more lost and deranged, so she might be worse in the 3rd.
I really loved that they incorporated my favorite part of the ride in the movie, which is the tranquil Louisiana style setting. If you get a chance check out that restaurant next to the ride because I could stay there all day, and thats saying a lot coming from me since I just love Disneyland. I also loved Davy Jones character, his look and his crew. They did an incredible job on them, as well as the addition of their boat The Flying Dutchman, great choice from old sea stories. Davy Jones gave the movie a more serious feel, a more ruthlessness that you would expect with real pirates. However I am hoping theyll show Davy Jones locker, which is the fate of Capt. Jack Sparrow, as explained by Boot-Strap Bill. A big kudos to the director for not showing the Kraken. Much like Jaws and the Wompa in Empire Strikes Back, they left lots to your imagination on what the thing actually looks like. The final scene with Jack verses the Kraken was also very good cinematically. Finally the end of the movie was really great with Capt. Barbosa walking in to shock not only the crew, but everyone in the theater. WHAT AN ENTRANCE! I loved it so much, that it took the sting out of waiting for the next movie. Also I was cheering and applauding like crazy. If youre still reading this and havent seen the movie, there is something seriously wrong with you matey.
